An investment in wind power is an investment in jobs, including jobs in operations and maintenance, construction, manufacturing, and many support sectors. In addition, wind power projects produce lease payments for landowners and increase the tax base of communities.

In 2012, Iowa generated more than 24% of its electricity from wind power - a national record. Iowa has a strong wind resource, the third most installed wind capacity of any state and is a leader in wind manufactuing.

WHAT WE ARE DOING:

• American Heartland Development is identifying areas in Northern Iowa with significant wind resources.
• We are working with landowners to obtain options for the wind resource on their land.
• Concurrent with our work with landowners we are working with the local utilities to:
  • Negotiate long term power purchase agreements
  • Obtain the necessary transmission rights
  • Initiate permitting with Federal, State, and local agencies.
